Zentralkokerei Saar GmbH

Zentralkokerei Saar GmbH (ZKS) is a joint subsidiary of AG der Dillinger Hüttenwerke , Dillingen, and Saarstahl AG, Völklingen, with each directly or indirectly holding 50% of the company’s shares.

Operational management of ZKS, as a company without employees, lies in the hands of AG der Dillinger Hüttenwerke .

ZKS was founded in 1982 and today produces with two coke batteries in continuous operation, whose total capacity is up to approx. 1.2 million tons of coke per year.

Aside from the coke, which is produced exclusively for use in the blast furnaces of the affiliated company, ROGESA Roheisengesellschaft Saar GmbH (also a joint subsidiary of AG der Dillinger Hüttenwerke and Saarstahl AG), the production program also includes resulting by-products such as raw tar, crude benzene and pure sulfur.

In the context of a modernization concept exceeding a cost of €220 million, the construction of the Battery B3 and the refurbishment of the Battery B1 both included the incorporation of the very latest pollution-prevention technologies.

Within the modernization work initiated in 2007 all the facilities of the by-products plant intended for cleaning of coke-oven gas have been updated to meet the very latest technological and environmental standards, which once again significantly improves environmental protection at the Dillingen location.

After a successful completion of this project in autumn of 2012 ZKS is now one of the most modern coking plants in the world.
